Hoofer SCUBAScuba Divers to Clean Lake Mendota

This Earth Day, Sunday, April 22nd Hoofer SCUBA volunteers will hit the water at Lake Mendota for the Dive for Earth Day in partnership with Project AWARE.

In Madison, Hoofers SCUBA volunteers will collect litter and debris along an underwater stretch of Lake Mendota and record what they have collected on data cards. The data cards are compiled for the state and then sent to the Ocean Conservancy to be included in the marine debris study. Each year the international results are published in an annual report with a listing of all the debris collected in each country.

Event registration will be at 11:00 a.m. on the UW-Madison Memorial Union Terrace (down at the boat docks)  Lake Mendota, 800 Langdon St, Madison. Dives will start at Noon. Gear rental is free and available to current Hoofer SCUBA members for the cleanup.
