Relay For Life is a unique fund-raising event that allows participants from all walks of life, including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic organizations, churches and community volunteers, to join together to fight cancer.

Relay For Life includes a celebration of cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), who walk or wheelchair a lap around the track. This is an emotional time and sets the stage for the importance of each participant's contribution. A festive atmosphere always develops around the track area at these events. As new friends are made or time is spent with old ones, the relay heats up and the camp-out begin. An atmosphere of camaraderie is created with team members entertaining each other, eating, playing games and walking for a great cause.

Highlighting the event is the luminaria ceremony held at 9:30 pm August 11 to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost the battle against cancer. The luminaries line the track and are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the incredible importance of their contributions.
Funds raised support the society's cancer patient services, like the Patient Navigator program, which offers free, confidential assistance to cancer patients and those who care for them. Navigators provide a link between cancer patients and community resources such as transportation, lodging or specific cancer information. Dollars raised from Relay For Life also support early detection and cancer prevention education and valuable research grants awarded to cancer researchers nationwide and in Wisconsin.
