Two men arrested in March convenience store burglary, sheriff says

Columbia County detectives arrested two men in connection with the March 27 burglary of a Cambria Oil Company convenience store in Cambria, Wisconsin. According to a news release, two search warrants were executed on Tuesday, April 17, resulting in the arrest of Landon Stanley, 21, of Columbus, and Nathan McCord, 19, of Cheyenne, Wyoming.



100 acres lost in grass marsh fire

A grass marsh fire got out of control Sunday morning at N6301 Wren Road. The Beaver Dam Fire department was notified by Dodge County Central Communications that resident Randy Hupf was burning items in his backyard when it got out of control.



Semi hits Amtrak passenger train in south-central Wisconsin

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the semi apparently struck the Amtrak Empire Builder passenger train about five miles east of the Amtrak station in Columbus, Wisconsin, on Friday. Nobody on the train was injured but two train cars were damaged.

Bryan Steil becomes GOP front-runner to win Paul Ryan's seat

A former driver for House Speaker Paul Ryan who has been active in Wisconsin Republican politics for years announced Sunday that he is running to succeed Ryan in Congress. Bryan Steil, an attorney from Ryan's hometown of Janesville and a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, becomes the likely Republican front-runner after the field of better-known potential candidates cleared for his entry.



UW study to reclassify jobs, set compensation structure

A consultant will be paid up to $900,000 to conduct a two-year study at the University of Wisconsin to reclassify and set compensation for thousands of jobs. The Title and Total Compensation Study is collaboration between the UW-Madison and the UW System, The Capital Times reported .
