Wisconsin Headlines

Poll: Obama's lead widens over McCain in Wis.

Results of a Quinnipiac University poll which asked likely voters in Wisconsin for their views on the presidential race.

THE POLL: Quinnipiac University telephone poll of 1,081 randomly selected likely voters in Wisconsin before last week's presidential debate, and 1,201 after the debate (10 electoral votes.)

THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 51 percent, John McCain 43 percent before the debate. Obama 54 percent, McCain 37 percent after the debate.

OF INTEREST: This pair of polls shows a dramatic post-debate bump for Obama in Wisconsin where his 17-point lead is the largest any poll has shown for him in the state. It comes on the heels of another independent poll released last week that showed Obama ahead by 10 points in Wisconsin. Particularly troubling for McCain is that Obama leads among independent voters, who were expected to determine the outcome of the race in this hotly contested state, 52 percent to 36 percent. The flailing national economy is also benefiting Obama with 55 percent of those polled saying it is the biggest issue in the race. And a majority say Obama is better able to deal with it _ 53 percent to 32 percent.

You can vote today, Obama tells state backers

Sen. Barack Obama today urged his Wisconsin supporters to vote before Election Day as his campaign increased its focus on early voting.
